Potsdam via Grunewald-lakes
The Royal Route: through Berlin's green west and Grunewald to Potsdam
Description
This route of ± 50 km takes us from our meeting point in central Berlin, through the green streets and parks of West Berlin, into the Grunewald forest by some of it's beautiful lakes, around the Wannsee and all the way to the royal town of Potsdam. Apart from riding through Berlin's abundant nature, this tour also truly dives into Berlin's and Germany's intriguing history: from the rise of Prussia and the imperial Germany, through the two World Wars and the interbellum, to the divided Berlin and the Cold War, and finally the country's reunification. Among many other places, we will stop by: > The Prussian hunting palace in Grunewald > Villa of the Wannsee-conference > Glienickerbrücke (Bridge of Spies) > Schloss Cecilienhof, location of the Potsdam Conference in July '45 > The royal Park Sanssouci in Potsdam With a lunch break on the way, we'll arrive at Potsdam around 16:00, where the tour officially ends. From here you can travel back with your bike by S/U-bahn or train, or bike back for another ± 35 km. Also you're free to spend some more time in Potsdam's nice town centre and/or Park Sanssouci , and return to Berlin by train / Sbahn later. We'd like to offer this tour on a sliding scale, so that everyone can join: The normal contribution is 25 euro, but depending on your financial situation, we provide the option of contributing either 35 or 15 euro as well. If any of this is too much of a financial burden for you to join, please reach out and we can look for a solution together.
